The Millénaire Mod is a village-focused mod that adds more depth to villages, as well as adding entirely new villages from various cultures around the globe. The aim of the mod is to make the world feel less empty, by adding these new villages to the game, with varied themes inspired by cultures such as the Indian, Mayan, Japanese, Norman and more.
This mod added villages before they were a default part of Minecraft, but since they became default, the mod shifted its focus to improve upon them and make them more varied and much more interesting, with more content than the default villages provide.
You will still find default villages in the game, alongside the new modded villages, and these default villages will pretty much be the same, so you won’t be able to progress with them, and they won’t do anything the villagers in the new villages will do, such as gathering materials.
Part of a new village, with a default village visible in the background.
Important: this mod requires Minecraft Forge.
The new villages are bigger, better, and more varied than the default villages you already find in the game, and they have deeper gameplay mechanics. New items are available, inspired by the new cultures, so you can get Japanese- or Indian-themed weapons and blocks through trading with those villagers. There is also a reputation mechanic in place, which means that the more you trade with a certain village, the better your reputation with its citizens will get, and if they like you enough, they may even build you a house in their village and make you their new leader. A quest system is also in place, which is another way to earn reputation with the villages, and improve your standing in the are.
Pressing “v” will show you the way to the nearest village, which means you don’t have to frantically search for them, a very nice feature. It will also only point to the new villages of the mod, not the default villages.
All villages are populated with men, women and children, who all do various task around the villages, such as improving or expanding the buildings, cultivating crops, mining materials, chopping wood, or crafting new tools, items and more. The villages expand over time, providing more room for the villagers and increasing the amount of citizens in a village. Children will grow up to be adults over time, and then have kids of their own. You will also find one or more signs in each village with various information about it, such as its population, military strength, current building project and more.
It really makes the game more dynamic and adds more depth, and it is overall a great and balanced mod.
