The Kingdom of the Sky Adventure Map for Minecraft is a new kind of adventure map, one that has great focus and emphasis on narration. This is done in a rather unique way, and I think that this is only of the only adventure maps of its kind.
During your travels and adventures through this map, you will occasionally stumble upon links to certain YouTube videos. Type in these links and watch the corresponding narrative video to enhance your experience through this map.
It is a kind of fun and inventive way to add some spoken narrative way, seeing as the default game won’t really let you. So instead of coding a mod or doing other tampering with the game, the creator of this map simply made YouTube videos instead, and placed links to the videos in the game. Rather genius actually.
The rules of the map are as follows:
- Do not break any blocks
- Do not place any blocks
- Do not use any fire, flint and steel or TNT
- You may craft weapons, armor, food, and torches to help you survive
- The map is intended to be played on Normal or Hard
- You may tame wolves
This map is better experienced with the Painterly Resource Pack, and it is recommended that you get that as well, as the map was made to be used with that resource pack.
The author of this map intends players to die a lot during the map, so do not fret over this, it is supposed to be hard. Use the beds placed throughout the map as a checkpoint system, so you don’t have to run too far to get back to where you were when you died.
The map has several hidden chests placed throughout, and these are critical to the players survival. Some are even only able to be found after the player dies.
As stated above, YouTube videos are used to move the narrative along, so when you encounter a sign that tells you to watch a video, alt-tab and open the video (the download comes with a html file that leads to every video, you can also click here to get to the video menu (remember to pause it)). Once you reach a sign that says, for example, “watch video 4”, alt-tab and click video 4, then go back into the game, you are not supposed to watch the video, only listen to it, as they only contain audio.
The map can also be played with other players in multiplayer.
This map was originally made for Minecraft 1.4.7, but works fine with older versions, the only bug encountered so far is that double doors are oddly placed, and can be passed without opening either (which you shouldn’t as you might enter areas you are not supposed to enter, if you can’t open the door and pass normally, then you might need to find another way). Be patient when loading it for the first time, as it will take some time due to the need for it to be converted.
